For what it's worth, I tried snapping a picture of the costume in progress:
Image

... I find it funny that it looks like the stereotypical "here's me taking my picture in a bathroom mirror" pic. All I need to do is crop it to one of those MySpace angles where you can't tell I'm fat and ugly and I'm social networking gold.

However, the camera flash looks hella cool considering it's a magic-user costume.

Also, the belt pouches came in today. I ordered on Sunday. Museum Replicas rocks. Only thing I have an issue with right now is that I couldn't really tell it from the pictures on the site, but they really are pouches. As in, they don't close up. No big deal, as they're like a pocket and will still hold a wallet, which was all I was hoping for. And I imagine if I wanted something fancier, I would be paying a lot more for it.

No response from the place I wanted to get the belt from. May need to consider some backup options. (One of which, obviously from the picture, is not to use one of my regular belts.)

I do too, for the same reason. Heck, I love any sort of attention at all nowadays, especially with the work from home thing and all. It helps me to actually have those good self-esteem days.

Eh, I'm not too keen on the rope idea. I see what you're going for, but I think this definitely has to be a belt, especially to do what I want to do with it.

Museum Replicas actually has a similar double-wrap belt, but it's a little more expensive ($52 rather than $35). FWIW, I got a 10% off coupon (for orders over $49) and 15% off coupon (for orders over $99) from Museum Replicas when I ordered. So, next time you're around you're welcome to look over the catalog, and if there's anything anyone else wants, I can lump it in with my order if I have to get the belt from them.

Oddly, double-wrap belts seem to be mainly for holding the weight of a sword, so it's a little odd to have one as part of a cleric costume. Then again, that might work to my advantage since I'm wanting to include a "spellbook."

FWIW, yes, I'm thinking of edging the capelet in blue, as well as my sleeves and bottom hem. (This may require redoing the capelet as I've already attached fasteners and I think putting edging on over them would be tricky. Then again, I set the fastener low because I assumed I'd be hemming the collar, not edging it.)

Also, just came up with an idea. Sculpey can be formed and then fired/baked/whatever like clay and then be painted, right? Because the 4th edition Pelor symbol or the 3rd edition St. Cuthbert symbol would be doable.

Yes, you did. It just hit me what could be made.

Actually, I'd kind of hoped to give it a shot myself, but... whatever. If you don't mind, at least let me paint them. And I really don't want a holy symbol more than 2-3" across.

Indeed. While I'm at Walmart tonight, I'm going to check crafts for that leather lacing you were talking about. I think sticking the symbol on a thick leather cord and attaching it to my belt would be pretty cool.

Also, I got the Mana energy potions. They're really small, but I think they can work out pretty well.

For the record, Mana potions + suede lace + Boy Scout knot tying skills = win:

Spellbook? Wouldn't a Holy Tome be more appropriate, like a Bible, Koran, or Talmud? I am not saying use one of those, I meant as an example.

Are you going to be carrying a staff or rod type thing? You can attach a holy symbol to the end of that if you both make one.

How much would you guys charge me to make a Celtic/Scottish shirt/tunic to go with my kilt?

Actually, I'm planning on it being a Player's Handbook. Thought it would be appropriate.

Yeah, I'm planning on carrying a plain old staff, so I'm really thinking the holy symbol will be separate.

Hmm. I honestly have no idea. I suck at sewing. Jen might be able to pull something off, but you'll have to ask her about that.

Came to a realization last night at Walmart on the book. I think I might be able to make do with a child's belt. Then, to make sure that the books stays in, I have an idea for how to attach the suede lace I got last night to the belt to keep the book on there.

Yeah, Chad, I think you already mentioned this.

Which edition of the PHB will you use?

Probably 3.5, but maybe 3 if it's substantially lighter. It has the mystic tome look that the 4e PHB doesn't have. And if I lose it, or it gets stolen or damaged, there are a ton at McKay's, whereas with 4e I'd have to buy a new one.
