Let's just say I'm damned handy with a needle. I do believe I can make some decorative stitching on your costume.

Lovely, just two issues then:

I'm not sure what sort of design to do, and I don't want to do anything too fancy and overdo it.

If we screw it up, I really don't want to have to buy more cloth, cut it, and then hem it again at this point.

Or could you say that you're really good at poking one into a Dylan-like doll?

This may be harder but safer: if you plan on embroidering along a hem of say the bottom or the sleeves, just do the design on a seperate peice of cloth the attach the cloth to the original robe.

Got the replacement belt today. Strangely enough, the Large even seems to be a little on the big side, but I think once I get everything on the belt and am wearing it over shorts, a robe, and a tabard, it'll probably even out.

I tried hanging the PHB from the sword frog by a belt, and I think I'm going to have to go back to the drawing board on that one. I have two different solutions right now. One I don't think will look as good, and the other will require some modifications to the belt I hang it with.

Indeed. "Handy with a needle" does not necessarily imply sewing. She could either be a practitioner of voodoo, or a phlebotomist.

Also, I keep thinking of this:

Come on, it's time to go

OK, so here are some pictures of the whole thing. (D'oh, I just realized that the holy symbol flipped around backwards for these.)

Then Jen started laughing at me, so I threatened her with 1d6 points of damage. (Or 1d8, if you use those bastardized 4th edition rules.)

Looks good. The socks are a nice touch.

Seriously, awesome job. There's no way I could do something like that.

Yes it looks very nice. While I am here at GenCon they will have plenty of booths in the dealers hall with costume stuff, is there anything you may need or want me to keep an eye out for?

Yeah, I think I'm going to get some boots like Jen's to fix the sock thing. Haven't looked yet, so I'm not sure what's available in men's sizes that's going to fit with the outfit. Museum Replicas has some boots but I don't think I want to spend that much.

I wouldn't sell yourself short. I'm pretty much a n00b myself. The basic sewing was pretty easy (if you have a machine), although trying to grok the way the pattern fits together is sort of taxing if you've never done it before. The hemming was frustrating on the capelet, but I think I could have managed hemming the robe itself. The belt and pouches... well, that's just a matter of doing an internet search and spending gobs of money. :)

Hmm, can't think of anything offhand that I need to look for. If there's anything you think I could use, and you have a camera/cameraphone with you, you can always ask. I imagine I'll make a sweep through the dealer's room at DragonCon on the first day for the same reason.

Needs a holy symbol on the clothing...and a hat. Make a hat.

I think Jen and I both agree we don't need any embroidery, although I will probably put one of the other Sculpey Cuthbert symbols on the capelet as a pin.

No hat. I trust you saw my original drawing.

Speaking of hats, the robe pattern I used could be used to make a Tentacle Pope outfit. You know you want to be the Tentacle Pope.

Yes you need a hat. St. Cuthbert and his clerics are known for their hats. Look in any old Greyhawk book and you will see they always have a hat.
